Auditions for
Foxfire

Geneva Underground Playhouse announces auditions for Foxfire, by Susan Cooper and Hume Cronyn, based on the Foxfire books, about Appalachian culture and traditions in north Georgia. The play was originally produced starring Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn, and later made into a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie starring them as well. Tandy won a Tony and an Emmy for her role.

Director Gary Patterson seeks actors/musicians for the following roles:

• Annie Nations, an indomitable Appalachian widow of 79. She’s gentle, but head-strong.
• Hector Nations, Annie’s now-deceased husband of similar age. Appears to Annie as a ghost or figment of her imagination, we’re never sure. Also appears as his living younger self in several flashback scenes.
• Dillard Nations, approximately 40, their youngest son, a successful but troubled bluegrass musician. Dillard plays guitar and sings in the role.
• Prince Carpenter*, any adult age, a real estate developer, trying to coax Annie to sell the family homestead for vacation home development. Affable, not slimy, but persistent.
• A country Doctor*, mature. Appears only in one flashback scene as Annie gives birth to Dillard.
• Holly Burrell, a recent college graduate and local school teacher. Once admired Dillard’s musical talent, but is now critical of his attempts to convince Annie to sell out.
• Bluegrass musicians: Fiddle player and upright bass player. *Ideally could also fill roles of Prince Carpenter and the Doctor, but will consider casting them only as musicians if not interested in acting nor suitable for the roles. They appear in a concert scene with Dillard and could also perform before Acts 1 and 2.

Audition dates: Nov. 21 & 22 7-9PM. Callbacks, if needed, Nov. 23.
Rehearsals: Beginning Nov. 28, continuing thru December and January with suitable holiday breaks.
Performances: Friday thru Sunday, Feb. 3 thru Feb. 19
